About six months ago David and I started striping the wallpaper off of the dining room walls in readiness for David expressing his creative juices and decorating the dining room how he wants; think of it as a classier version of Changing Rooms.
We're now in the middle of the actual make-over. I helped him prepare the room and fit new skirting boards but the rest of the project is down to him. He's chosen the carpet, the furniture and (most importantly) the wallpaper. Wallpaper isn't something we'd usually go with but it does mean we can avoid replastering the whole room.
When it comes to decorating I'm a real stickler for detail while David's a bit more happy-go-lucky; he isn't scared to make the occasional bodge to get the job done. I have to admit it was this combined with his determination to do the wallpapering himself that made me feel ever so slightly on edge. The thing with wallpapering is that a) it only looks good if it's done perfectly and b) it's almost impossible to do perfectly.
Luckily he roped in his friend (and former landlady) in to give his some guidance on the finer points of hanging wallpaper and so last weekend they launched their assault on the dining room - bye bye plaster, hello dotty wallpaper. After a good eight hours they emerged announcing that they had managed to get 2/3rds done and dusted and then sealed the room off so I couldn't 'accidentally' peak at the work in progress.
Sunday morning arrives and David ventures back through the cordon to view the labours of the previous night. Seconds later he comes back out looking visibly shocked and orders me to do the unthinkable and look at the work in progress. This could only mean something bad.
The harsh light of day revealed that wallpaper paste had stained the wallpaper is several places, and even worse large bubbles seemed to have appeared over night. David, as you can imagine was heartbroken.
So anyway, wallpapering is pretty tricky; but the professional decorator who's now hanging the wallpaper seems to have got the hang of it. It's a shame the cost of the decorator is more than the cost of replastering the room in the first place.

On one of my lunchtime forays into the internet unknown I came across a Flash game called Guess the Google. Now i'm not one for games most of the time but this one has got me hooked. The idea is simple... the game shows you a montage of Google images and you have to guess what the related keyword for all the pix is. Trouble is you only have 20 seconds.
