London Town

The ongoing drama with the hotel reservation that never was managed to have an impact on the anniversary itself. The hotel and the booking agents are still arguing about the reservation being made for the wrong day and so I've ended up having to pay for the night we didn't want while it all gets sorted out. Not an ideal situation by any means.

Reservation issues aside The Hempel itself was an amazing hotel. The lobby was a truly incredible minimalist space and the corridors were almost space age in their style. Because of it being our third anniversary the hotel upgraded us to one of their best rooms. The room was a beautiful space with incredibly high ceilings and a bathroom to die for. Sadly, considering it is a five star hotel, there were a few little details that let it down. Not having a bottle opener to open the drinks in the room being one of them. Sounds like we're moaning but when you paid as much as we did for one night you'd hope for it to have been perfect.

To celebrate our big day we went into the West End to see a slightly unusual choice of play; The Mousetrap. It seemed a very appropriate choice as we both have a serious soft spot for Agatha Christie. Definitely transitional British theatre at it's best. We were both kept on the edge of our seats right until the end.

David recommended eating at Wagamama on Lexington Street; which he thinks is the best noodle bar around. The food was great and I don't think I've ever had my order taken using a Bluetooth networked PDA before.

We finished the evening by propping up the bar in a couple of bars in Soho and found ourselves chatting for hours to two Aussie girls called Jo and Emma. Considering I don't always enjoy the whole bar scene these days I had a great time chatting and knocking back the cocktails.

All that was left to do then was to catch a cab back to what turned out to be one of the most comfortable beds in London.
