hard
to do because
I couldn’t
be sure how
they would
take it. Everyone
took the news
amazingly;
even my boss
who I was sure
would have
a real problem
with it.
The final hurdle was to tell my
family. I finally told my mum on
Boxing Day and let her tell my
dad after I'd returned to Leicester
because I thought she would be
able to handle him better. Mum
was fine and said that she would
love me no matter what. She had
obviously thought about whether
or not I was gay before and wasn't
totally surprised. Dad phoned me
the day after I got back to Leicester
to say that while he was slightly
disappointed by the news he still
loved me.
My brother being told worried me,
especially as during the previous
year he had came up to visit me
and on seeing Stephen from Boyzone
on TV went into a long rant about
'poofs'. My mum said that we should
wait before telling him, and in
the end my dad took him to one
side for a man-to-man chat. While
I think he had some issues to start
with he seems to have come to terms
to it now; we're now as close as
we've ever been.
So there you have it, my story.
I am very happy that I decided
to come out and so glad all my
friends have both accepted it and
supported me. It is such a nice
feeling to be able to be totally
honest with them for once in my
life. |
